Meet locally grown innovators, creators and researchers in the nation’s largest project-based learning showcase with 300+ high school seniors from 30 schools. Join us for Project Lead the Way Senior Showcase 2016—celebrating the ingenuity and creativity of PLTW high school students in engineering and biomedical sciences.
The showcase includes more than 300 seniors from 30 schools who have completed PLTW’s Engineering Design and Development or Biomedical Innovations courses—and have completed up to four PLTW courses during high school, culminating in this senior capstone project. Ninety percent of these students plan to pursue a career path in a STEM-related field.
View their projects during the Open House from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., immediately followed by the Awards Ceremony.
ABOUT THE PROJECTS: Engineering Design and Development students work in teams to research, design, develop and test an original solution to a valid open-ended technical problem—working closely with industry professionals who provide mentoring—ultimately presenting their solution to a panel of engineers. Biomedical Innovations students conduct in-depth research or design innovative solutions for the health challenges of the 21st century. Independent students and student teams work with a mentor or advisor from a university, hospital, research institution, or the biomedical industry.
Awards and Next Steps: The PLTW-KC Engineering Design Contest and Biomedical Research & Design Contest engages local and national STEM professionals to judge and recognize the best projects prior to the event. Students representing the top three projects in each contest will win scholarship prizes.
Also, during the event, KCSourceLink and the Center for Entrepreneurial Ecosystem Development (C.E.E.D.) will invite local entrepreneurs and business leaders to serve as guest “investors” to identify the top innovative ideas. Commerce Bank will serve as the “investment bank” to count investor dollar and announce the top innovation winners. Top students will be invited to the Make It REAL workshop on June 3, 2016, to work with entrepreneurs to further develop and market their project ideas.
