Position Overview
The SquareOne Small Business Director is responsible for providing excellent customer service to all staff and customers. This position provides leadership, professional expertise, and direction for the planning, structure, strategies, execution, and evaluation of the SquareOne Small Business program. This position is also responsible for effectively cultivating and managing strategic partnerships supporting the SquareOne Small Business program. The SquareOne Small Business Director must possess the ability to design, develop, and execute a high-quality curriculum.
Essential Functions
Plans and coordinates functions of the SquareOne Small Business program, including entrepreneurial, small business, and workforce development events, with a focus on excellent customer service,
Cultivates and maintains strategic SquareOne Small Business partnerships, including maintaining contracts and agreements
Supervises SquareOne staff
Maintains the SquareOne facility
Non-Essential functions
Maintains social media and web content
Participates in library-wide initiatives
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s Degree required
2 years of workforce development or entrepreneurial experience or previous business ownership preferred
3 years supervisory experience required
Grant management and reporting experience preferred
Public Speaking experience preferred
Previous experience with program management and/or curriculum design preferred
Job Knowledge
Remains current on trends and industry standards in the public library, small business development, and workforce development.
Communication
Demonstrates proficiency in public speaking, including hosting programs and making formal presentations.
Financial
Ability to manage grant funds as stipulated by the grant exhibits a satisfactory performance in this position.
Negotiates fees and services of vendors and presenters to produce programs and events for SquareOne

Advanced ability to maintain effective and collaborative working relationships with multiple stakeholders.
Advanced knowledge of a public library’s mission and purpose, ability to provide clear expectations and direction, to manage competing priorities, to evaluate quality of work, and provide feedback and accountability.
Advanced knowledge of department processes and procedures, expert knowledge of Library Professional Ethics, advanced knowledge of the impact of decision-making on MCPL, and demonstrated mature judgment to make department-level/system level decisions.
Advanced proficiency in customer service skills through professional and collaborative interactions with internal and external customers.
An advanced understanding of system-wide DEI initiatives in the organization, the impact of policies and procedures on DEI, and how DEI principles impact the workplace and library services.

MVR Requirement
Possession of a valid driver’s license and a reliable personal vehicle for use in carrying out the duties of this position including transportation of materials and equipment (mileage reimbursed).
Work Environment
(Indoor) Works primarily indoors with prolonged periods of sitting at a desk, working on a computer, and must have a reasonable tolerance for dust, mold, scents, allergens, and communicable diseases which enables the employee to handle library materials, work in older buildings and interact with coworkers and the public.
