Build the Future of KC Schools. Let The Lean Lab show you how. In this 1.5 day workshop, learn how to take popular innovation frameworks, Lean Startup and design thinking, and use them to become a teacher of the future who shifts mindsets and creates solutions for your classroom, school, and community.
SCHEDULE
Day 1: 5:00PM-8:00PM
Session 1: Problem Statement Pitches. Begin to build an innovative mindset simply by asking the question: what problem keeps you up at night? Uncover the root of that problem with problem statement pitches and an unconference, leaving you ready to dig in the next day and begin building a solution.
Day 2: 8:00AM-4:00PM
Session 2: Design Thinking & Lean Startup Crash Course. Learn how to utilize renowned innovation frameworks in an education context. The crash course includes an overview of Design Thinking (created by IDEO and Stanford’s d.school) as well as an introduction to Lean Startup (a technique championed by Harvard Business School). Then, delve back into your problem statement from Session 1 and learn how to distill down your challenge into solvable chunks.
Session 3: Innovation Design Challenge. This session lays the groundwork to innovate a game-changing solution for your school, classroom, or learning environment based off of problem statements from Session 1. Teams conduct customer development and empathy work while gaining insight into the ideas for a solution they hope to create. Session 3 concludes in an ideation and prototyping workshop to tease out creative, forward-thinking opportunities that go beyond traditional education approaches.
Session 4: Plan for Implementation. Form a basic experiment to test your solution using minimal resources.

“The innovative workshop added evidence to my firm understanding (and belief system) that collaboration time is vital to the success of an organization.” Mary Laughlin, Ed.D., Parkhill School District
“I strive each day to be innovative in the way our team approaches the challenges we face implementing our 1:1 initiative. We try to think outside the box/circle and meet our students’ needs as best we can. This [Lean Lab] process will provide the Instructional Technology team a well-designed process to facilitate our conversations.” Matt Carlson, Parkhill School District
“The design process was incredibly solid and well-articulated. The pacing was outstanding as the facilitators established a fearless focus on the work that needed to be accomplished. I was also very impressed with the shifting process that took place with my team as the facilitation process pushed the thinking. Absolutely fantastic experience!” Liberty School District Educator
